Quilted leggings were a basic element of protective clothing in the Middle Ages. Made of linen, with natural wool padding.
The upper part of the leggings (up to the knee) is vertically quilted, while the lower part is diamond-patterned.

Quilted leggins – protective accessories for medieval attire
