Custom of covering one's amor have spread and became popular around medieval Europe since XI th ct,
till the very end of XV th century.

Over armor surcoats and tunics varied in shapes and sizes. The differences depended on the region of Europe exact time of production, owners wealth.

This particular type is based upon reliefs from merchants house in Mainz - Germany, dated 1317 AD.
 
Cut of two parts, skirt widdened with wedges. Cutouts on the sleeves. Tied on both sides with one single lace.
