In middle ages gambesons were most popular and the cheapest method of protection. Infantry used to have them as the only protection, rich men-at-arms and knights used them as a protection against bruises and abrasions.
Moreover it was a clever way of damping the shock of the hits. In early middle ages cuts of the gambesons were simplified loosely fitting as it was with other garments at this time. In XIV th centurygambesons began to be shorter and close fitting. Also in this period padded garments were adapted to daily use especially by nobles and rich burghers.

Gambesons made by our company consist of the following farbics:

-linen outer layer

-linen lining

-cotton strenghtening layer

-filling: made of a mix of natural wool with other materials

In standard implementation gambesons have one layer of wadding ond the body and sleeves. Moreover there is additional layers of wadding on the chest, hips , shoulders, spine and on the kidneys area. On the sleeve there are additional wadding on the biceps elbows and forearms. In order to assure perfect mobility there are no wadding under the armpits and on the elbow pit. We make the elliptical wedge under the armpits for even better mobillity – on customers demand ( no additional fee charged).

Presented garment was inspired by preserved example of gambeson / jupon which belonged to Charles the VI th (1368-1422). In proposed solution it is made as regular gambeson – to use under harness. It's made of four parts plus sleeves. The edges of the garment are decorated with triangles. It is closed with 12 buttons.
