In some situations they were even used to cover themselves at night. They are ideal for cooler evenings at historical events or as a blanket to sleep on.

Coats in the Middle Ages were cut from segments of a circle, most often 1/2, 3/4 or from a full circle, often had cutouts on the lower edge of the coat. They were fastened with buttons, fibulae, clasps or tied with a rope.
