A garter belt, called aslo gacnik was common in the late Middle Ages for use as a service belt. It was used to attach leggings, both civilian and combat.
It is made of two layers of wool felt, then covered with a quilted fabric for protection. The holes serve as a belt for tying the harness around the waist, as well as for attaching leggings or other items of clothing with a cord or strap.
In the Middle Ages, the garter belt was not only functional, but also provided a secure connection. Not only leggings were attached to it, but also other protective items that needed to be securely secured and protected on the body during work or military expeditions.
In modern historical reenactment of the Middle Ages, it is difficult to imagine not having a hose holder belt in one’s historical wardrobe. It is impossible to reliably recreate the appearance of medieval equipment and implement practical solutions used in earlier centuries.
